EL PASO, Texas (July 26, 2024) – The Sundt Foundation recently awarded $18,000 to three local El Paso nonprofit organizations: the Tom Lea Institute, Junior Achievement of El Paso and Make-a-Wish North Texas/El Paso.

“Our employee-owners are honored to give back to critical nonprofits in El Paso,” said Denice Soto, Sundt Foundation board member for the El Paso area. “Their missions increase the quality of life for children of all ages across the region.”

The Tom Lea Institute cultivates appreciation of the culture, history and diversity of the Southwest through the art and writings of Tom Lea. An $8,000 grant will help the institute’s work in maintaining its digital library and placing regional history curricula in school districts in the El Paso area.

Junior Achievement (JA) of El Paso received $5,000 to support its mission of helping K-12 students become financially literate, career-ready and entrepreneurial. With the grant, trained JA High School Heroes will deliver JA programs in elementary schools, which provides positive high school role models and increases graduation rates for young people.

The Make-a-Wish North Texas/El Paso Chapter was awarded $5,000 to continue offering life-changing wish experiences to children suffering from acute, critical illnesses. The El Paso affiliate is 100% locally funded. The local team has granted wishes to nearly 1,000 children; this grant will aid in fulfilling wishes to the 80 children on the group’s waitlist.
